Remember when the iPad came out? Many people didn’t really know what it was. Some thought it was a replacement for a computer; others thought it was a really big phone. Many people were unclear about what it was used for, and many suspected that it would just be a passing trend. Yet Apple foresaw that iPads would meet a crucial need before most people knew what that need was, and, as a result, launched an entirely new market for electronic tablets. Today it’s easy for us to see that there was a huge demand for what iPads offer. The iPad’s success, however, did not emerge in a vacuum. It came at a time when the world was becoming increasingly interconnected and technologically advanced, and mankind was ready for a gadget that would revolutionize the mobility of technology and collaboration. In a similar fashion, when SOLAR came about, it was not understood or credited as a tool that would seriously impact how people think about energy or pay their bills. But today, it is transforming the way people use, produce, and purchase power!
We are currently engaged in a great war against the middlemen of the energy sector. Your power company does not generate your energy, though maybe it never occurred to you, a power company buys energy from countless sources such as nuclear power plants, mines that harvest finite minerals, i.e. coal, that lie just beneath the earth’s surface, wind turbines, natural gas pipelines, dams that harness energy from the flow of water, solar farms comprised of countless GWs of solar panels, even rooftop residential solar systems comprised of up to 20 kWs of solar panels, and the list goes on and on. The power companies purchase energy from these sources for mere cents per kWh (the unit of measurement of energy), and then sell that energy on to the public at a markup 5, 8, or even 10 times what they purchased it for! They justify these markups via employee benefit packages, keeping their shareholders happy, tree trimming, reading of meters, maintaining power lines, replacing meters with new remotely accessible versions, etc. Theses power companies in every county across the nation are hard at work trying to find a way to trap us into an antiquated cycle of renting our power at a rate that varies so much throughout the year, it makes budgeting for monthly expenses nearly impossible! As if that isn’t bad for enough, that rate also continues to rise unexpectedly at the sole discretion of the power company. The way we currently pay our power bill is only comparable to signing up for a variable rate mortgage that has no end date. By sticking with a power company, we are essentially agreeing to put ourselves in hundreds of thousands of dollars of debt for a service that will never be seen or tangible to us in any way. It is akin to paying for something we will never be able to have, for an amount of money we will never exactly know, and for a debt we definitely will never be allowed to pay off! The unpredictable price of energy, the uncontrollable monthly bills that come like clockwork but are never very consistent in their number, the monopoly the utility holds over customers for power in the area, but forget all that. Why wouldn't we want to forget all of that? Forget the feeling of panic due to spontaneous outages, and stop falling apart due to a lack of resources.
You have everything you need, we all do, the sun provides more than enough energy for us all. 20.3 million homes across the U.S. are currently powered via solar energy, and that number is growing in leaps and bounds! Through all of this uncertainty with the pandemic and our whole way of life being turned on its head, a few things have become undeniably clear. The times aren't in the process of changing, they have already changed. SOLAR is now. And if I am being entirely honest, the best time to go solar was yesterday! The savings tomorrow will NEVER be as good as they are today. So stop waiting to see how Bill, Bob, Kim, and Caroline enjoy their new solar system to make your decision, unless they are averse to saving money they will love it and so will you! That’s just the way the solar industry works, we have hit a plateau of symbiotic harmony between both pricing and quality. Those individuals refusing to participate in this stage of the technological revolution are missing out on a historically significant and financially defining advantage.
SOLAR is happening. Can you imagine getting in on Facebook, Google, or Microsoft when those companies first went public, well that’s what it is like to go solar right now. A game changer. 1 in 600 homeowners went solar last year alone in the U.S. This solar thing isn’t gearing up to happen, it isn’t in the early stages, this isn’t even the first gen; solar is now, it is firmly planted, and it isn’t going anywhere. We are at the peak of savings right this very moment, it is more affordable and more cost effective than ever before, and far cheaper than your utility company. Solar may not be our past, but it is very much both our present and future. Electric vehicles, laptop computers, iPhones, and many other ideas once thought to be so abstract and futuristic, are the new normal. No one wants to go back to commercials, flip phones, or computers so large they took up an entire basement, not when we can fit the entire internet in the pocket of our jeans. Change is excellent! Change is good! Change is happening all around us whether we decide to acknowledge it or not.
